In the system, which came into effect last year, the Class 10 board exam is optional, and students are graded on a range of co-curricular activities along with academics.

“The board would like to initiate training of parent advocates to develop a band of qualified parent advocates in CCE,” says the notice. “The board is looking for volunteers who have excellent communication skills, a keenness to learn and share information with understanding and a belief in the basic principles of CCE which address the ‘continuous’ and ‘comprehensive’ aspects of learning, growth and holistic development.”

Parents and students had been hesitant when the changes first came in, and several still have doubts over whether the grading system will work. “There has been a lot of apprehension from parents on the various changes, they are still conditioned to the previous system of evaluation,” said Avnita Bir, principal, RN Podar School.
