CCTV network will connect 99 police stations across Mumbai

The integrated CCTV network will not only allow 24x7 monitoring of areas by local police units, but also provide a seamless connection between the force and the disaster management cell at the BMC headquarters.

The integrated CCTV network, once implemented, will not only allow 24x7 monitoring of areas by local police units, but also provide a seamless connection between the force and the disaster management cell at the civic body’s headquarters.

The network has been designed to enable regional additional police commissioners, zonal deputy police commissioners and local police stations to monitor footage simultaneously, at any given point of time. Live feed from cameras set up across the city can be accessed at the offices of five regional additional police commissioners, 12 zonal deputy commissioners and 99 police stations.

While regional and zonal offices of the Mumbai police can simultaneously view feeds from 10% of the cameras under their jurisdiction, police stations will be able to view footage from 50% of the cameras in their areas.

The network will be connected to the headquarters of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and Mantralaya too. This will be especially useful for disaster management.

Further, at least five mobile vans will be available for circulation through the city, with facilities to view live feed while inside the vehicles.

These vehicles will house communication equipment, along with a set-up to stream footage to the main command centres, in case of emergencies. The vans will also have the capacity to store footage for at least 24 hours for four cameras. A local computing set-up and VSAT technology will also be made available.

A separate help desk has also been mooted in the blueprint, for better operational coordination of these mobile vans.
