Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan attributed the victory of Congress candidates in the legislative council biennial polls to effective strategy and denied that the party sought any help of Raj Thackeray's MNS.

"Both Congress and NCP worked for their respective candidates and there was no need to seek votes from outside candidates," he said. He also made it clear that the party did not seek help from Raj Thackeray's MNS to facilitate the victory of Congress candidates.
However, Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal claimed that votes of 13 MNS legislators were divided between Congress and NCP. But, he did not elaborate on the matter. On the victory of two BJP candidates, party MP Gopinath Munde said he was confident of it. "I was confident that our both the candidates would win despite having less votes," Munde said referring to the victory of Dhananjay Munde and Shobhatai Phadnvis.
