The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) wants the criminal investigation department (CID) to investigate the civic water pipeline repair contract. Mangesh Sangle, MNS leader in the corporation, alleged irregularities in the contract awarded to plug leakages and improve the quality of drinking water because the civic body had spent more than Rs700 crore in four years, but there has been no progress.
On Wednesday, Sangle raised the issue in the civic standing committee alleging that the civic vigilance department should also investigate the matter, alleging misappropriation to the tune of Rs 600 crore in the contract.
The contract was part of the Sujal Mumbai project, which aimed at providing 24x7 water supply. Rahul Shewale, chairman of the standing committee said inquiry has been initiated by the civic vigilance department and a report would soon be submitted. htc
