As a tribute to Mumbai's most prominent historian, Sharada Dwivedi, who passed away last year, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj museum in Colaba will host the Sharada Dwivedi Memorial Lecture on Thursday.

Organised jointly by the museum and non-profit organisation Urban Design Research Institute (UDRI), the lecture will feature a talk by British historian Charles Allen. "There is no one left in the city who knows as much about its heritage as she did," says Nayana Kathpalia, executive committee member of the UDRI. Dwivedi, who had been at the forefront of heritage conservation in the city had written at least 13 books on the various aspects of Mumbai's history, died in February 2012, after a brief illness. She was 69.
"We believe it is important for the city to remember her contribution," says Sabyasachi Mukherjee, director of Chhatrapati Shivaji museum.
