City’s youngsters have responded with great enthusiasm to the Ganeshotsav coordinating committee’s call for volunteers to clean-up beaches after Ganpati immersions on Wednesday.

On September 17, Hindustan Times published the Ganeshotsav Samanvay Samiti’s plea to youths to sign up for the ‘Punarvisarjan’ campaign. At that time, the samiti had only 70 volunteers from various mandals. “After reading about it, several youngsters have called us and now we have 150 more volunteers,” said Naresh Dahibawkar, president of the samiti. “Most of them are from schools and colleges.”
The samiti’s initial plan was to focus on Girgaum Chowpatty, where they would require at least 100 volunteers. However, now that they have enough members, the committee has decided to deploy 70 volunteers at Juhu Chowpatty and an additional 50 at Mahim beach. “Now, we will be able to have a full-fledged drive,” added Dahibawkar.
