The Shiv Sena found common ground with its rival, the MNS, in the assembly on the issue.

An all-party delegation of corporators led by Mayor Shraddha Jadhav that met chief minister Prithviraj Chavan on the demolition of religious structures also complained against Kumar.

MNS legislator Bala Nandgaokar said Kumar did not want to meet with or attend to calls of public representatives. Sena legislator Ravindra Waikar echoed a similar view.

Speaker Dilip Walse-Patil said such behaviour would not be tolerated. Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar told the house that he would table a statement within two days.

Kumar, who has a reputation for bluntness, irked public representatives in his earlier postings too.

“He made it compulsory for us to take appointments before we meet him. We are public representatives and won’t take such high-handedness lying down,” said a Sena corporator on condition of anonymity.
