A day after the Bombay high court pulled up the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for illegal structures in the city, municipal commissioner Subodh Kumar has asked civic officials to demolish additional floors that developers are building without the civic body's consent.

On Wednesday, Kumar called an urgent meeting of civic officials and instructed them to act against erring developers. He asked the building proposal department to undertake a survey and draw up a list of all under-construction buildings that have built illegal floors.
Even though a circular to the effect had already been issued on Saturday, Kumar reiterated the issue so that the civic administration takes it seriously.
While Kumar was not available for comment, a senior official from the building proposal department said, "The commissioner is very serious about the action against illegal constructions."
The extra floors that developers build are later regularised by purchasing extra FSI through instruments like TDR. This happens with the connivance of the civic administration.
