It is not only the tanker mafia, but others too are trying to make money out of the water problem in the city.

The Mankhurd police, along with a special deputy commissioner of police (DCP) squad, on Friday arrested a local Congress women’s wing president for illegally storing and selling water in the slums.
Officials raided Takimmu-nnisa Khan’s (36) residence in Mandala area and seized 70 drums (each drum contained about 35 litres of water). They also seized an electric pump connected to the main BMC pipeline to draw water illegally.
Khan was allegedly selling 20 litres for Rs 5. She has been booked for theft and wrongfully diverting water and also damaging public property.
“Further investigation is on,” said DCP Dilip Sawant.
Officials said if Khan is found indulging in any similar offence again, she could be charged under the stringent Maharash-tra Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act.
The DCP squad was formed in November as water theft and its black marketing continued in Shivaji Nagar, Mankhurd, Deonar and Govandi.
