The Congress became the butt of Twitter and Facebook jokes and criticism today after Youth Congress workers allegedly shut down a Mumbai restaurant which had made fun of the UPA govt for its decision to tax air conditioned restaurants in the last budget.

The Congress sure wouldn't like this on its plate.

"As per UPA eating money (2G, Coal, CWG scam) is a necessity and eating food in a A/C restaurant is a luxury." This was a sentence Aditi Veg Restaurant in Parel, south Mumbai, had printed at the end of its bills.

Customers probably smiled if they ever noticed the sentence but Youth Congress workers missed the humour.

A group of some 30 Youth Congress workers protested at the restaurant on Monday, leading it to be shut down for a day. When the restaurant reopened on Tuesday, the controversial statement was missing from its bills.

The victory was short for the party workers: Twitter wits and Facebook posts had much fun with their conduct.

#AditiRestaurant started trending on Twitter early Tuesday and many posted photos of the old bill with remarks criticising the act. Many Facebook-ers too posted using the #AditiRestaurant hashtag.

Most users were of the opinion that such activities in a democracy were not just wrong but also condemnable as they signified the government's attempt to curb their right to freedom of speech.

Congress workers too are now trying to turn tables and add a political flavor to the whole episode.

Their president offered justification saying they never vandalised the restaurant, alleging that such rumors were spread by the BJP to malign their reputation.
