Contractor alleges cop grabbed shop

A small-time civil contractor from Chembur has moved the Bombay High Court seeking action against Assistant Commissioner of Police Nandkumar Mane, alleging that Mane has forcibly taken his 280 sq-ft shop.

Ravindra Jadhav (39), who undertakes small works of repairs and maintenance, has alleged that Mane had wanted to grab his shop for a long time. Attached to the Bandra division of Mumbai police, Mane had, at times, threatened to kill him if he failed to vacate the shop, Jadhav alleged. Jadhav’s lawyer Gunratan Sadavarte contended that the seriousness of the crime warranted proper investigation into the alleged crime.

His petition states that on April 18 two constables, identified as Shri Zende and Shri Tushar, attached to the RCF police station came to his shop after he closed it. Acting on Mane’s behalf, they broke the lock in Jadhav’s presence, and declared that the shop belonged to the police officer.

Jadhav said the constables threatened him that he will be booked in false cases, and have to face dire consequences, if he tried to lodge any complaints.
