Stating that "it is high time we took serious note of corruption", special sessions court judge SK Keole had, on April 10, declined leniency to senior IPS officer AK Jain and his chartered accountant Prasanna Lodha in a bribery case."

"Corruption has spread like cancer in society," Keole had observed.
While sentencing the duo to five years' imprisonment under the Prevention of Corruption Act, the judge had held that the officer and his CA had misused their power and position.
Holding that Jain had failed in performing his duty as a senior police officer, the judge had observed, "A higher grade officer of law and order executing machinery is expected to set an example for his subordinates... Instead, Jain, indulged in illegal activities, that too with his subordinate officers. This needs to be viewed seriously."
While criticising Lodha's actions as an educated member of society, the court had observed, "Lodha, who is a highly educated person, misused his relation with the officer and indulged in commission of the illegal act."
"Educated persons like Lodha are expected to set an example for by their responsible behaviour, so that they can be viewed as role models. But, Lodha has failed to behave in such a manner," he added.
