A mosque will be constructed in Navi Mumbai after the Bombay High Court dismissed a petition that had opposed its construction.

The court on Wednesday dismissed the plea filed by Navi Mumbai resident Sumitra Kadu opposing the construction of mosque. The bench will give detailed reasons for the dismissal of the PIL later.
Kadu’s petition said a majority of the local population is Hindu and so there was no need for a mosque.
In July 2009, Cidco executed a lease in favour of the Islamic Trust, allotting the plot to construct a mosque. The residents approached Cidco on August 22, 2009, asking to cancel the allotment. Cidco had initially stayed the mosque’s construction but later it supported the construction stating that nearly 7.1 per cent of the population in the area are Muslims.
