CR committee to prevent fire incidents

After three fires at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) station, the Central Railway on Thursday announced that they had now formed a core committee to ensure prevention of such incidents. The authorities have also developed a 32-point guideline that has been circulated within the organisation and needs to be adhered to.

This decision was taken following the recommendation of the three-member committee formed immediately after the first fire that took place in the second week of December. The divisional railway manager would be responsible for overseeing whether or not all 15 departments are following these guidelines on a daily basis.

The core committee would only recommend changes that need to be made in the guideline in case there is any need. “All the departments will have an official responsible for preventing incidents of fire in the future,” said V Malegaonkar, chief PRO, CR.

The CR authorities have begun seizing cylinders found at food stalls at railway platforms. On Tuesday, they seized eight cylinders from stalls at Kalyan, Ulhasnagar and Masjid stations.
