Cuffe Parade businessman shoots himself in office

A 67-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself in his office in Cuffe Parade on Thursday afternoon. Though, the police could not ascertain the exact cause of his death, the reason of depression has not been ruled out. HT Correspondent reports.

A 67-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself in his office in Cuffe Parade on Thursday afternoon. Though, the police could not ascertain the exact cause of his death, the reason of depression has not been ruled out.

According to the police Siraj Ahmed Jaffery runs a flour business from his seventh floor office at Maker Chambers building in Cuffe Parade. The incident happened

around noon when Siraj came to his office.

After completing his work, Siraj went to the washroom and allegedly shot himself in the head with a revolver.

The police are in the process of recording the statements of Siraj's family members, relatives and staff. “Further investigation is on,” said senior police inspector J. Kharat of Cuffe Parade police station. The police suspect that the businessman could have had losses in the business and that could one of the possible reason for his suicide. The police have registered a case of accidental death.
