Customs find jewels in man’s rectum

The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Customs on Tuesday intercepted a 40-year-old passenger from Dubai, and found a thumb size diamond-ruby jewellery piece in his rectum. What shocked AIU officials was the passenger’s statement: that he practiced for two days to conceal the jewellery by inserting a battery in his rectum.

Customs officials said that Ahmednagar native Zakir Tamboli was intercepted at 6 pm on Tuesday on his arrival from Dubai. On checking his two checked-in baggages and his person, the AIU officials did not find anything. Since they had specific information, the AIU took him to a night magistrate at around 11 pm for permission to conduct an x-ray on him. “In the x-ray, a foreign object was seen in his rectum,” a Customs official said requesting anonymity.

Officials said that the foreign object was found about 6 inches inside the rectum. Tamboli started feeling pain and on reaching the airport, he ejected the jewellery piece. Officials found the jewellery wrapped in a unique manner. It was packed in cotton, then kept in a small box over which a rubber coating was applied. It was then kept in a condom and pushed into the rectum.
