The 83-year-old actor was admitted to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in suburban Andheri. “He is critical and on ventilator. He is still unstable,” said Dr Ram Narain, executive director of the hospital.

Doctors said he had suffered from cardio-respiratory arrest and had to be resuscitated on Saturday. Singh was last seen in Imtiaz Ali's film, Jab We Met (2007), as Kareena Kapoor’s grandfather.

Meanwhile, actor and politician Shatrughan Sinha continued to recuperate from breathlessness at the same hospital. He was admitted on last Monday for respiratory problems. “He gets breathless occasionally and we have to adjust his medications accordingly. We will keep him under observation. It could take a couple of days,” said Dr Narain.

Sinha was admitted on last Monday.

His family members said it was a severe allergic respiratory reaction to painting going on at home.

Rajesh Khanna discharged

Actor Rajesh Khanna was discharged from Lilavati Hospital at around 1:30am on Sunday.
The 69-year-old was taken to the hospital on June 23, after he complained of exhaustion and weakness.
