Dawood Ibrahim aide Shyam Kishor Garikapatti, on the run for more than a decade after he jumped parole, was on Saturday arrested by the Goa police.

Garikapatti, an accused in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case, was arrested from a house in Saligao village, around 10km from Panaji. The Goa police booked him under the Indian Arms Act, as he was caught with firearms. Sources said he will be handed over to the Mumbai police soon.

“Acting on specific information, we arrested him and seized a 9mm pistol,” said Karthik Kashyap, crime branch superintendent of police. Garikapatti was also booked for forgery, as the police seized fake identity proofs.
Garikapatti, who jumped parole in 2003, is allegedly involved in 18 major crimes, including a shootout at JJ hospital in the early 90s that involved rival gangs of Dawood Ibrahim and Arun Gawli. He was earlier imprisoned under the
Terrorists and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA). Sources said Garikapatti is also wanted in a murder case
in Vithalwadi.

Garikapatti evaded arrest so far by staying in a rented room as a Govind Ram, an employee of a Pune-based realty firm. “He has been travelling around the world and had visited Goa for pleasure,” a senior officer said.
