Maintaining the Pakistani gunman Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab’s stand, his lawyer K.P. Pawar on Thursday told the special court that he has been made a scapegoat only for being a Pakistani.
“Kasab is an innocent boy from a small village in Pakistan, who has become an easy prey and target for the police,” said Pawar. “He has nothing to do with the attacks or the perpetrators of the attack.”
Insisting that Kasab had come here to watch movies, Pawar said the police falsely implicated him in 26/11 terror attacks.
Pawar said as all the 10 attackers were dead, the police had to arrest someone to show that one of the attackers has been arrested. “Since the police is not able to arrest the absconding accused, they are targeting an innocent person,” said Pawar.
Kasab had said that he had come to the city about 20 days before the terror strike and was apprehended by local police at Juhu Chowpatty after he showed his Pakistan passport.
Pawar said the evidence adduced by prosecution in the form of photographs, CCTV footage and DNA tests was “manipulated, fabricated and improbable.”
