The Delhi-bound flight 6E 178 had left from Mumbai on schedule at 9:30am, but had to return after the crew detected a snag mid-air.

Less than an hour after it left the city, the flight, with 173 passengers on board, landed back in Mumbai.

An spokesperson confirmed the incident.

“IndiGo flight 6E178 enroute Delhi from Mumbai retuned to bay shortly after take-off following a technical snag. The flight carrying 173 passengers and five crew members, which took off at 9:30am, returned to Mumbai at 10:19am. The technical snag was rectified at 11:15am and the aircraft finally took off at 11:37am after refuelling,” said a spokesperson.

Of the seven passengers who got off the aircraft, three fliers took the subsequent flight to the capital while the rest left the aircraft after collecting a full refund, said airline officials.

According to the prescribed security protocol, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) were called in on board at 11:15 am to conduct an ‘anti-sabotage’ check after the passengers got off the aircraft.

Some passengers accused the airline terminal staff of being ‘callous’, as they were forced to take a long back-up to the check in counters to pick baggage tags.
