DGP, senior cop clash over official car

The state police chief, director general of police Ajit Parasnis, has served an ultimatum to one of Maharashtra's senior-most serving IPS officers, Raj Khilnani.

The state police chief, director general of police Ajit Parasnis, has served an ultimatum to one of Maharashtra's senior-most serving IPS officers, Raj Khilnani. He has been asked to return an 'unauthorised' police vehicle in his possession, else it will be towed to the police garage.

Parasnis letter to Khilnani, who is posted as director general (home guard and civil defence), is about a Tata Indigo car, which the latter took with him to his new posting instead of surrendering it.

Khilnani got the car when he was the additional director general of police (Railways). After he was promoted to the rank of director general (DG) in March and transferred to the home guard, he was given a Honda City.

Khilnani told HT he will return the vehicle after he is allotted a 'proper' one by his department. "My official vehicle (a Honda City, provided by the home guard) is old and breaks down often."
