Diamond broker held for killing delivery boy

A diamond broker was arrested on Thursday for allegedly murdering a 21-year-old delivery boy at a diamond-trading firm and dumping his body in Panchgani.

A diamond broker was arrested on Thursday for allegedly murdering a 21-year-old delivery boy at a diamond-trading firm and dumping his body in Panchgani.

The police are on the lookout for three other accomplices who allegedly assisted the main accused Naresh Golani, 32, in the execution of the crime. The diamonds worth Rs1.25 crore, which the victim was carrying with him, have not been recovered yet.

Senior inspector of DB Marg police Ajit Surve said Golani, a diamond broker from Virar, had been arrest while three others are absconding.

Golani was arrested after the police checked call records of the deceased, Hardik Moradiya, and found that he had received several calls from Golani before the murder.

"Golani wanted to pocket the diamonds that Moradiya was carrying," said Surve, adding that Golani, and the three others, dumped Moradiya's body at Panchgani, a hill station in Satara district.

Golani, a Virar based broker, allegedly told Moradiya that instead of delivering the diamonds to the client, they could sell it off to someone they knew at a high price.

Under this pretext, Golani along with three other accomplices allegedly took him to Panchgani in a four-wheeler. "There they slit this throat and strangulated him," said an officer.
