This will help the 40,000 students that enroll for distance education courses every year.

A three-member committee had submitted the proposal to the university on June 6. It will be discussed and is likely to be approved in the finance committee on June 17. After the finance committee, the university’s management council will have to give a final approval.

“The proposal is likely to be passed and the online procedure will begin from July,” said a university official.

If approved, the Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Limited (MKCL) will be the technical arm of the admission process. MKCL is also in charge of the online junior college admissions in the city. Around 80,000 students are enrolled with IDOL.

“We went through the presentation and have given our report that recommends that all first-year admissions go online from this academic year,” said D Harichandan, director of IDOL and a member of the committee.
