DNA test of raped, killed 2-year-old’s kin negative

Fernandes, who had maintained that her family members are not behind the heinous crime, is relieved after DNA reports of three members of her family came negative. “The police should now focus on other angles and try to nab the real culprit,” said Fernandes.

But she rues the fact that the police did not inform them about the DNA test results. “Our DNA reports have come negative and the police have not even bothered to tell us about it. We heard about it on the television. The investigators stopped summoning us for questioning, but did not tell us why,” she said.

The investigators say that apart from the three family members, reports of three neighbours are also negative.

Ashok Jadhav, stepfather of the victim and one of the three persons who tested negative, said, “We always stated that we have nothing to do with the incident and the locals are also not supporting us. We believe that the accused is a local and we expect the police to crack the cases soon.”
