In a unique celebration of Independence Day, a taxi driver in Mumbai has revamped his cab’s seat covers to spread harmony between India and Pakistan, by reiterating that citizens of the two countries are essentially from the same culture.

The campaign collaborated with Karachi-based designer Samya Arif, 29, for the project tilted the ‘Indo-Pak’ design.

The revamp was carried out by Taxi Fabric — a campaign that renovates taxi covers with pop art through crowd funding .

“We believe that art is an effective way to build bridges between nations and their people,” said

UK-based Sanket Avlani, founder of Taxi Fabric. Arif worked with Indian artist Kunel Gaur for the design.

“The idea was that Indians and Pakistanis share the same roots. I have picked up on hand gestures and geometric patterns that are common or unique to both cultures, such as a dua or namaste and amalgamated them into a visual collage around a sea scape,” said Arif.

“Most of my passengers are quite impressed [by the design]. One of them even told me that they feel like they have been seated in a moving hotel lobby,” said Mohammed.
