Dry spell ahead for city: IMD

After heavy rains brought about a four-degree dip in the city’s maximum temperature last week, the temperature soared to 31 degree Celsius on Monday.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department data, the maximum temperature in south Mumbai and the suburbs was one degree above normal at 31 degree Celsius.

The minimum temperature stayed normal in Colaba at 27 degree Celsius and Santacruz recorded 25 degree Celsius. Weathermen said that Mumbai should be prepared for a few dry days. On Monday, while south Mumbai received 3mm rainfall, suburbs witnessed slightly more rain, 7mm.

“The monsoon trough from Rajasthan to Bay of Bengal is oscillating and not in its normal position. But there are cloud patches over parts of south Gujarat and north Konkan that would result in few spells,” said VK Rajeev, director, western region, IMD.

“Less rain would lead to a rise in temperature.”

Humidity levels also continued to stay high at 89% in Colaba and 83% in Santacruz. On July 8, the city recorded the highest rainfall for the season.
