Each floor in new hospital to have one super-specialty

Maharashtra’s first super-specialty hospital, set to come up at the premises of the JJ hospital, will have two floors dedicated for outpatients.

Maharashtra’s first super-specialty hospital, set to come up at the premises of the JJ hospital, will have two floors dedicated for outpatients. These floors are expected to be at the lower levels – ground and first floor. Every other floor will be dedicated to one super-specialty. This is to ensure that staff that has been trained in a particular subject will stay on one floor itself.

Each floor in the hospital will have beds as per the specialties, and patients in almost 50% of the beds will be treated for free. There will be special and VIP rooms on each floor.

The surgical departments like cardiovascular, neurosurgery, urology and plastic surgery will be clubbed together, and located one on top of the other -- considering the requirement of operation theatres, and to make it easier for patients with several inter-related complications. Non-surgical departments including pharmacology, neurology, endocrinology, will be clubbed together as well.

Announcing the decision taken by the state cabinet on Monday, chief minister Prithviraj Chavan said: “Considering the increasing need for super-specialty and the growing number of patients for public medical care, we have decided to go ahead with this plan.”
