The state will be spending more than Rs1 lakh per hearing for engaging special prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam to represent them in the Supreme Court to attend case hearings related to Kasab and other 26/11 attacks accused.

As per a notification issued by the home department on August 26, Nikam will be paid Rs50,000 per day for every hearing in the court. In addition, he will get Rs10,000 per hour for discussions, a business-class flight ticket (a Mumbai-Delhi business-class ticket can cost anywhere upto Rs50,000) and accommodation in a VIP suite ‘Maharas-htra Sadan’ in Delhi.

“Considering my experience of over 30 years, I think the fees are commensurate. Other lawyers with the same background would have charged more,” Nikam said.
