Engineer sent lewd SMSes to get chat friends into trouble

Adarsh Sinha (34), a software engineer from Ghaziabad who was arrested for sending lewd text messages to mobile phones of political party workers in Mumbai has told the Malad police that he did it to take revenge on girls who severed ties with him after becoming his chat friends.

Sanjay Banerjee, deputy commissioner of police (zone XI), said that Sinha used an Internet link to send chat invites to two girls from Malad. The girls would chat with Sinha using their mobile phones.

“Sinha would lure girls online by posing as a RAW [Research and Analysis Wing] agent or as an official investigating the 26/11 attacks,” said Banerjee. “His convincing skills were so good that one of the girls started taking his advice on personal matters.”

Sinha started communicating with Roshni [name changed] in January 2009 using a fake profile. The duo became close within a matter of four months and would chat on their cell phones for hours. When Roshni’s father found out about it he took away her cell phone.

Roshni had passed on her friend Priti’s [name changed] number to Sinha so that the duo could be in touch. Sinha, who was operating from Ghaziabad, told Priti that he was investigating the 26/11 attacks. Priti was also attracted to Sinha and would spend hours talking to him. She would even consult him on her personal problems thinking he was a police officer.

Priti’s boyfriend objected to her proximity to Sinha and ensured that she did not communicate with Sinha anymore.

This time, Sinha tracked down the cell phone numbers of MNS workers Neela Desai and Manish Dhuri. He sent them lewd messages from the Internet under Roshni and Priti’s numbers.
