This weekend could be the end of the monsoon season for the city.
According to the weatherman, lightening and thunder activity during evenings signal that monsoon is all set to withdraw.
“Heat during the day causes convection currents in the lower atmosphere. The resultant moisture then forms clouds which leads to rainfall,” said RV Sharma, deputy director general, western region, India Meteorological Department. “So there could be some showers.”
For the past three days, the city has been experiencing dark clouds followed by heavy showers and thunder and lightening. “This will be a regular feature in the evenings for about five days. It is an indication that the season is coming to an end,” he said.
In the past 24 hours, the city has received 10.2mm rainfall. A few spells of rain and thundershowers have been predicted in various parts of the city for Friday with a maximum temperature of 32° Celsius.
With the city having experienced rainfall way above the average annual figure this year, Mumbaikars are waiting for the season to end so they can put back their rain gear. “The weather seems quite strange. While it’s very hot during the day, it’s been raining in the evenings. People will start falling ill with this oscillation in temperatures,” said Deepak Shah, an entrepreneur.

{{/usCountry}}Humidity levels will continue to be close to 70% for the next few days. It will drop down to 30% post-monsoon. Monsoon has already withdrawn in north India.
