Transport expert Sudhir Badami, who travelled on the Eastern Freeway on Friday, shared his experience with Hindustan Times. While he had an excellent ride, there were a few issues not addressed by the Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), making it far from perfect.

“The travelling experience on the freeway was excellent. I felt that I was travelling on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. However, it turned out to be a bumpy ride on a few stretches. In addition, there were jerks at the expansion joints on some stretches, especially where the bitumen road turns into a concrete one and vice versa.”
Badami covered the 13.6 km Orange Gate to Panjarpol stretch in 15 minutes with a maximum speed of 60 kilometres per hour. “The drive to Panjarpol was smooth and I reached in 15 minutes as there were not many vehicles on the freeway.”
He added that there was water-logging at some stretches, marring the ride. “At some locations, I found water-logging, which might have occurred due to issues with the drainage system on the freeway.”
Badami also pointed out the need for Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) on the freeway. “I think authorities should start end to end BRTS on the freeway. Buses will carry more passengers than in cars can on the freeway.”
