The division bench of Justice J.N. Patel and Justice Amjad Sayed made it clear that the Congress minister would have to explain his statement.

Rane, at a press conference in December, 2008 said that there was a nexus between politicians and the terrorists.

“We will not let you off easily,” said Justice Patel after seeing Rane’s affidavit, which said that he had simply quoted from the Vohra Committee report. The Vohra Committee was constituted by the Centre to probe the alleged nexus between politicians and criminals.

The court has also issued a notice to the Centre asking them what was done with the Vohra Committee report. The Centre has to reply within six weeks.
