Fill up vacancies in child welfare dept: HC

The state government was directed to initiate a process for filling up 101 vacancies for the post of probation officer and District Women and Child Development officers within three weeks.

The state government was directed to initiate a process for filling up 101 vacancies for the post of probation officer and District Women and Child Development officers within three weeks.

The Bombay high court had appointed a committee during a hearing of a suo-moto petition regarding the sexual and physical exploitation of inmates in private shelter homes run by non-governmental organisations.

The committee, headed by Asha Bajpai, said the superintendents of the private shelter homes either had no money for emergencies or had to pay from their own pockets. The court then directed the state to introduce petty cash/contingency funds for shelter homes for mentally challenged children.

A division bench of chief justice Mohit Shah and justice DY Chandrachud directed the government to make provision of Rs5,000 for the 23 shelter homes across the state within 10 days.
