Friend’s misfiring may affect Rahul Bhatt’s application for firearm licence

On Sunday, Lamba’s .45 mm licensed firearm had misfired when he was reportedly cleaning the weapon. The bullet went through the window glass panes of a nearby training institute, injuring a student after shreds of shattered glass hit him. Lamba was arrested by the Versova police, who recorded Rahul’s statement before letting him off.

Highly placed sources in the Mumbai police told HT that though Rahul had nothing to do with the misfiring, it will have a bearing on his application for obtaining a licence for firearm. Rahul had recently moved an application for a firearm licence on grounds that he could be a possible target of the underworld, as his father had long been targeted by the mafia for his frank view against criminals.

Additional commissioner of police, West region, Vishwas Nangre Patil, said: “Considering the present case, we will review his application.”
