“It is a lucky day to start a business. I will try to arrange it at 12:12pm to make it more special,” said Chudasama, a Dahisar resident.

Many Mumbaiites have planned to make 12/12/12 special as there won’t be another date with repetitive digits till the next century. From launching ventures to having babies, the date has become important despite not having any astrological significance.

Rohan Sharma (name changed on request), 15, will undergo a bariatric surgery, where he will lose about 60kg from his 126kg-frame. “The surgery was scheduled for last month, but I waited because it is a special day and I will be undergoing a life-changing surgery,” said the Powai resident.

Several gynaecologists will be conducting caesareans as parents want this birth date for their children. “We have nine caesareans planned,” said Dr Vanita Raut, gynaecologist, Dr LH Hiranandani Hospital, Powai. “Patients have requested that the baby’s birth time be 12:12pm.”

Lots of weddings too have been planned but astrologers say the day holds no special meaning. “The day is not particularly auspicious or bad astrologically as per the Hindu calendar,” said Vedic Rishi, an astrologer from Andheri. “It is just hype.”
