If you see a nattily dressed foreigner whipping out his phone to click a picture of some interesting sight on the street, you’d probably mistake him for a tourist.

But when Guillaume, a 30-year-old graphic designer from Paris, whips out his camera, it’s for a reason.

Guillaume, or Guiwy, as he prefers to be known, creates pop art from the photographs he takes of the city’s streets.

He uses his two-megapixel Nokia phone camera to take these photographs, which he then works on using Photoshop and illustrator software to create pop art images.

He even adds elements of the streets of Paris, like the Eiffel Tower, to his pop art.

Guiwy will be exhibiting 15 pieces of his pop art collection at Out Of the Blue, Khar, on September 6. The exhibition, titled Romantic Conversations – Mumbai and Paris, will continue till September 19, 2010.

“I keep my mobile phone in my pocket at all times. I take pictures wherever I go,” says Guiwy. And how many does he take in a day? “Lots, lots, lots,” he says.

“I don’t know what I’m going to see on the street,” he says. “Every day is a surprise.”

“My next project will be on the umbrellas of Mumbai,” says Guiwy. “I’m inspired by the way the city reacts to the monsoon and its water-logged streets.”

The exhibition will be on from September 6 to 19, 12 pm to 11 pm at Out of the Blue Restaurant, Le Sutra- Indian Art Hotel, Khar.
