Grover family refuses to claim Neeraj's remains

Parents of television producer Neeraj Grover, murdered in the sensational 2008 case, have refused to claim his remains from the sessions court in Mumbai, as their son's killer had been allowed to "walk free".

Terming it a serious "miscarriage of justice", Amarnath and Neelam Grover said they would not claim the remains of their son until justice was served. "How will he (Neeraj) rest in peace when Maria Susairaj (co-accused) has walked free?" Amarnath told HT.

Kannada actor Susairaj had come to Mumbai in search of work. She got to know Neeraj, who promised her work in Bollywood. On May 7, 2008, her boyfriend naval officer Emile Jerome Mathew had gone to Susairaj's residence in Malad where he got into a fight with Neeraj. Soon after, Mathew stabbed Neeraj to death, following which, he and Susairaj cut his body into pieces and disposed them in Manor forest in Thane district.

Neelam said: "They (Susairaj and Mathew) did not get the punishment that such brutality deserves and we will appeal against the verdict." In the July 1 judgment, additional sessions judge MW Chandwani had said Amarnath may claim Neeraj's remains, which include pieces of his rib cage, femur bone, skull and a tooth, for the last rites of his son if he so desired. Chandwani said, "… otherwise, they be destroyed after the appeal period is over."
