Everyone has a story to tell, and now Mumbaiites can narrate their tales and listen to others share their real-life accounts. A new initiative called Tall Tales will hold its first monthly story-telling session in the city on Friday. Riddhi Doshi reports.

Everyone has a story to tell, and now Mumbaiites can narrate their tales and listen to others share their real-life accounts. A new initiative called Tall Tales will hold its first monthly story-telling session in the city on Friday.

Citizens can participate in the event, which will be held at cultural think tank StudioX at Fort, for free. Aspiring storytellers must, however, submit their tales to the organisers on mumbaistories.com for vetting. The first event will see eight participants and will last 90 minutes. It will be followed by a reception and interactive session.

Each session will also be recorded and uploaded on mumbaistories.com for online viewing. “While the theatre scene and movie culture is strong in Mumbai, the city does not enjoy the art of pure storytelling,” said Tall Tales founder Michael Bruns, 36, a teacher who moved to Mumbai from Manhattan in 2011 to work with an NGO. “Back in the US, I used to listen to a lot of stories and loved the experience of being introduced to a different world. Mumbai has many interesting stories to tell.”
