HC dismisses PIL against Anna's stir

The public interest litigation filed by social activist Mangleshwar Tripathi against Anna Hazare's agitation in Mumbai was dismissed on Wednesday.

The public interest litigation filed by social activist Mangleshwar Tripathi against Anna Hazare's agitation in Mumbai was dismissed on Wednesday.

The Bombay high court's vacation bench of justice Girish Godbole and justice ML Tahilyani dismissed the PIL, which had demanded that Anna's agitation in Mumbai and the Jail Bharo Andolan planned from December 30 be declared illegal and unconstitutional. When the court asked what Tripathi's objections to Anna's campaign were, his counsel Yusuf Iqbal said the jail bharo could cause a law-and-order problem in the city. However, the central government's counsel, RV Desai, said that the petition was not in public interest and that the government was equipped to handle any situation. The court decided against imposing any costs.
