How students are trying to get you to vote

Mumbai iVote, an organisation of students from colleges in south Mumbai, has tied up with the district collectors’ office to set up portals in five colleges that will help get voter ID cards for students within a week.

“Students want to vote, but they will not take the effort to do the paperwork. It has to be done for them,” said Denise Fernandes, a student of St. Xavier’s and a member of iVote.

The organisation has registered over 100 students for identity cards and their campaign will continue through the week.

While some students try to get people registered, others are looking to improve the turnout from what it was during the Lok Sabha polls. About 20 students have been enacting street plays at Juhu beach, Carter Road and Shivaji Park to raise awareness.
