If you have not got your Income-Tax refund yet, it is because the department is still to process nearly 20 lakh returns filed by Mumbaiites.

Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Mumbai P. P. Srivastava, who recently took charge, pulled up senior officials on Thursday, asking for reasons for the backlog.
Of the 20 lakh returns filed, only 37,000 were processed in this financial year’s first quarter — April to June. “Compare this with almost 12 lakh returns we could process in the preceding quarter [January to March],” said a note that was circulated among all senior officials. “I am not asking you to do something new, I am merely asking that what you do in January, February and March, do it now,” he said in the note.
Out of the 20 lakh returns, 13 lakh were filed online.
