As the India-Pakistan match fever rages, many corporations have made special arrangements for their employees on Wednesday. While some are giving their staff a half-day off, others are screening the match in their offices, setting up big screens and arranging for snacks.

As the India-Pakistan match fever rages, many corporations have made special arrangements for their employees on Wednesday. While some are giving their staff a half-day off, others are screening the match in their offices, setting up big screens and arranging for snacks.

“All our employees will see the match on a large digital screen in a special room; beverages and snacks are on the house. We watched the India-Australia match too, but the one with Pakistan is bigger and so is our screen for it,” said Rajeeb Kumar Dash, head, marketing services, Tata Housing.

Fiat will allow employees to watch the match on television.

Like Fiat, most firms may go a little soft on its employees during the match. “Even promoters and CEOs will be glued to the TV,” said the CEO of a hospitality firm requesting anonymity.

In some firms, Wednesday has been officially declared a half-day. Cadbury India is allowing its 300 employees to leave after a half day in the office; those who wish to stay back can enjoy the match on large screens put up in the office. “We will finish work in the first half, so work will not suffer,” said Dash.

Even companies which are otherwise perceived as very serious are gearing up to have some fun. Godrej Industries’ corporate staff will get a break from their formals with the company relaxing its dress code for a day. There will, of course, be a large screen and snacks.
