Dnyaneshwarnagar resident Kishore Kamble was part of the four-year-old Om Sai Mitr Mandal, which travelled to several dahi handi celebrations on Thursday.

“When he came back from the celebrations in the night, he complained of body ache. We didn’t give much serious thought to it, because it was natural to feel pain after being part of the human pyramid. The next day when he complained again, we took him to a nearby clinic, where the doctor gave him an injection and medicines,” said Kamble’s uncle Venkat (48). He added, “On Saturday, however, he complained about breathlessness and coughed out blood. So, we took him again to the clinic where the doctor advised us to take him to a hospital.” Kamble was admitted to Thane Health Care Hospital at Gokhale Road.

“We admitted him around 11.00 pm. An x-ray was done and report showed he had blood clot in the chest. The doctor asked us whether he had hurt himself somewhere. Some boys in the mandal told us he had fall in Shastrinagar, Yashodhan naka and Savarkarnagar. He had been a part of dahi handi celebrations for the past three years. We would refrain him from participating but he wouldn’t listen,” said Venkat.

Kamble stopped studying after completing HSC. He was unemployed for the past one month and was pursuing a computer course. His father Shivaji (52) is a truck driver and mother a housewife. His eldest brother is physically handicapped and two younger brothers in college.

“His father is the only earning member. He would have lent a helping hand to him after completing the computer course,” said Venkat. A case of accidental death has been filed and Kamble’s body has been sent for post-mortem at Thane Civil Hospital.
