Internships, holiday plans on hold

They are yet to begin. Teachers have no choice but to tell students to keep studying in case the exam schedule gets back on track soon.

First and second-year exams have been affected by the on-going teachers’ strike across the state on all exam-related work. Third-year practicals have been jinxed, and it is not clear whether the theory papers, scheduled to begin on March 28, will proceed without incident.

Because of the uncertainty, holiday, summer school and internship plans have also gone awry. “I don’t think either of my plans will work out,” said Kirpalani, who has signed up for a summer course in April and has holiday plans right after. “But we understand the teachers’ problems and hope it can be solved soon.” Many students have already paid for summer courses, but the likelihood of these being rescheduled is slim.

The confusion is causing jitters among third-year students as well. Third-year BCom theory exams will see more than 60,000 students appearing this year, and if the past two weeks are any indication, chaos could ensue if the situation is not sorted out soon.

“A lot of rumours have been flying around about the exam schedule, and some people have even received a new timetable but no one knows what to believe,” said Mayank Agarwal, 21, a TYBCom student from Mithibai College. “I have not made any holiday plans yet because the situation isn’t clear.”

However, TYBcom students have been getting their hall tickets, so are hopeful that things will pan out. “It seems to be on track,” said an HR College student.
