Israel to give civic body tips on saving water

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) will be signed, between the BMC and Israel New Tech Corporation, a body that works under Israel’s ministry of industry, trade and labour on Wednesday.

“There will not be any financial implications but it is for sharing technology, ideas and experience,” said Rajiv Jalota, additional municipal commissioner, BMC.

Israel is best known to be an example for water management technology. The country is dealing with water-related issues for the last four decades.

As part of the MoU, water management solutions and technologies would be exchanged between the two countries.

The civic body supplies 3,400 million litres of water a day to the city against the requirement of 4,200 million litres.

The city is facing an 800 million-litre shortfall every day. On top of it, in 2009, the civic body faced a major water crisis because of a 70% rainfall that year.

“To avoid a repeat of the situation we have to be prepared and learn how to fulfil our routine necessities by using less water,” said a civic official on condition of anonymity.
