Israeli ‘super group’ wows audience with its rock-n-roll vibe

Punk sounds inspired by the 80s filled the Cross Maidan as Israeli band The Cut Out Club took to the stage on Friday at the Hindustan Times Kala Ghoda Arts Festival (KGAF). Nitzan Horesh, the 37-year-old lead singer of the five-member band, described the team as a “super group”, as it comprises members from top bands in Israel.

Inspired by The Kinks and David Bowie, The Cut Out Club, with its distinctive rock-and-roll vibe, had the crowd clapping and cheering at the event, which was part of Pepe Jeans music section of KGAF.

Joining Horesh on the musical adventure were Ben Golan, Dani Milo, Roey Bar-Yehuda, and Doron Talmon.

The band is, Horesh said, “trying to give a message, but it is for the audience to decide what it is. Good art always has a message.”

So, is it difficult to be a rock-and-roll band in a war-struck country? “It’s rare,” said Horesh, “But when you breathe that air, and live like that, it seeps into your music. I don’t like talking about the lyrics, because it takes the magic away.”
