JEE candidates can apply for re-evaluation

Students aspiring to get into the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) can now apply for re-evaluation of their Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) papers.

The results for the JEE, which is the entrance criteria for the 15 IITs and IT-BHU Varanasi and ISM Dhanbad, were declared on Wednesday. On Friday, the IITs for the first time, put up the answer scripts of 4.68 lakh students who took the JEE this year on their websites.

“Since we were displaying scanned images of the objective response sheets (ORS) on our websites, we decided to give students an option of re-evaluation too. Anyone who feels there is an error in his paper can write to us. We took the decision at last week’s joint admission board meeting,” said SG Dhande, director, IIT-Kanpur, which organised IIT-JEE 2011. “We have put up answer scripts in the morning, but so far we have got no re-evaluation request.”

The joint admission board that conducts the exam decided to add the option of re-evaluation last week.

Along with scanned images of their scripts, students can view the correct answers and also the marks given in the ORS to them.

To seek re-evaluation, students will have to write a letter to their zonal IIT by June 6 along with a demand draft of Rs1,000. It will then be forwarded to the organising IIT.
