Labour contractor arrested for molesting 4-year-old in Kandivli

The police arrested a 37-year-old man for allegedly molesting a four-year-old girl in Kandivli on Sunday. The police said the accused, Sunil Babu Joshi was under the influence of alcohol. Locals beat him up before he was handed over to the police, they added.

The police said the incident took place on Sunday when Joshi, employed as a labour contractor, came to visit a relative in the Sai Nagar area of Kandivli. Joshi, who was loitering in the area, spotted a four-year-old girl and began talking to her, the police said. He then lured her to an isolated spot by promising to give her chocolates, they added.

“He was touching her inappropriately when a passerby saw him. Soon, a crowd gathered and began assaulting him,” said inspector Bharat Markand of Kandivli police station. The victim’s father along with other locals took Joshi to the Kandivli police station.

After taking the girl’s statement, the police registered a case under section 354 (outraging the modesty of a woman) against Joshi and arrested him. Markand added that the victim and accused have been sent for a medical test.
