They may seem like the last people who’d support an anti-corruption campaign, but builders have lent their support to Anna Hazare, saying lesser corruption would mean cheaper homes.

“If corruption decreases, property prices will go down,” said Paras Gundecha, president, Maharashtra Chambers of Housing Industry (MCHI), the apex body of the builders.

“Unofficially, we have to pay Rs 800 per sq ft to authorities. If we don’t have to pay, we can pass down that discount to consumers,” said Anand Gupta, secretary, BAI. The BAI has issued a letter in support of Hazare’s campaign.
