As per the prosecution’s case, on May 3, 2010, Vikash Kharat murdered his mother, Anjana Kharat, when she was alone at home.

The prosecution alleged that he had demanded money from his mother saying that he wanted to go for an interview. However, when she refused to give him any money he started hitting her.

The public prosecutor in the case, PS Tawde, argued that Kharat was a habitual drinker and was unemployed. Every day on some pretext or the other he demanded money from his mother. However, on that day when she refused to give him money, he became angry and killed her. He then surrendered before the police and confessed to the crime. The police then went to the spot and found his mother lying on the floor, covered in blood. The post-mortem report revealed that she had 56 injuries on her body.
